I really bought into the entire One Life program. Meeting with Dr. Haynes, who had struggled himself, really made me want to succeed and believe it would work. He believed I could do it, so I believed I could do it too. When I hit the 100 pounds lost mark, the entire staff made it so cool - with party poppers and all! What brought you to One Life?

I was referred from a friend of a friend.  Someone was raving about them to my wife at a pool party so I decided to go online and check it out.  Shortly after, I booked my first appointment.


How much weight did you lose?

So far I have lost 105 pounds.  My starting weight was 343 and I eventually want to weigh 225.


Have you always struggled with your weight?

I tried a few things on my own, but was really clueless on where to start or what to do.  I was always active in high school and just gradually put on the weight in college and grad school and when my wife was pregnant.  I never had to watch what I ate in the past and my bad habits caught up to me.  I never learned portion control or how to eat healthy.


What has Dr. Haynes and One Life taught you about losing weight?

I really bought into the entire program.  It was very comprehensive.  Meeting with Dr. Haynes, who had been there himself and who developed One Life from testing it and being the first client, really made me want to succeed and believe it would work.  He believed I could do it, so I believed I could do it.  One Life really teaches you to be a good cook.  Since you have to eat real food and count your blocks, I end up cooking really healthy and filling meals every night.  Throughout the day, I am so busy that the One Life protein bars keep me going.  However at night, I am pretty much the chef in the house.  I’ve been on the program for almost a year and it really is a way of life.  I do not consider myself on a diet.


Do you have any tips or tricks that kept you on track?

I have a big sweet tooth and I like to drink, so cutting back on those two things has helped.  My new vice is popcorn.  It helps when I have a craving and I just count out a block of popcorn to satisfy it.  Eating more protein has also been a big game changer.  I mainly eat protein, vegetables and fruit.  You won’t find me cooking with pasta anymore and I used to love it, but realized that it won’t keep me full and it has a high block count.


How hard was it to lose the weight?

It took a while at first to get used to.  I had never really done anything before where I had to understand portions and watch what I ate, but once I found a system that worked for me, I just got it and it really works fast.  My wife has even lost a few pounds because of the way I cook now.


What would you say is the One Life difference?

I think with all those other diets and weight loss clinics, people lose the weight temporarily and then once they finish, they gain it back.  With the cooking and planning that you have to do with One Life, it just becomes a way of living and eating and gives you the tools to keep it off.  The weekly handouts they give you are great for applying the plan to real life.  I know how to order at restaurants now and what to watch out for that could blow it.


How has One Life changed the perception of yourself?

Looking back at old photos of myself is hard to believe that I was ever that big.  I recently had new head-shots taken for my website because the old photos just were not me anymore.  I am much more confident now and of course shopping for clothes is more enjoyable.  I still see myself as big, which will take a while to get over, but in time I will.  I certainly do not plan on re-investing in bigger clothes again.  I already gave them all away.  So I know that I will keep the weight off!


As a male, how was it explaining to people how you lost the weight?

I have already referred 5 or 6 people.  Once I believe in something and I am passionate about it, I want to spread the word.   I was proud to tell people when they asked that I joined One Life and how easy it is.  It really changes the way you look at the things you eat.  I tell people that they have to be ready to lose the weight for it to work.  Being committed and sticking to your weekly appointment takes someone who wants it.
