About Jonathan M. Haynes, MD

Dr. Haynes received his Medical Degree from Oregon Health Medical School in 1999. He completed his residency training in Family Medicine through the University of Washington’s Vancouver residency program. After receiving his board certification, Dr. Haynes moved south searching for sunshine and opened a primary care practice in San Diego.

After practicing as a Family Physician and Hospitalist for nine years, Dr. Haynes grew frustrated watching his patients struggle with health problems that were a result of being overweight, but felt limited in his ability to help them given the current medical environment. Dr. Haynes realized that he could have a bigger impact on people’s health if he focused full-time on weight loss, rather than simply treating his patients’ weight-related health problems with medications. In 2008 he made the decision to leave his practice and dedicate himself full-time to helping people lose weight.

Dr. Haynes initially worked as the Medical Director for a weight loss clinic, but grew discouraged at the large number of people who were unsuccessful at maintaining their weight loss after finishing the program. After researching other weight loss plans, he realized that the failure of patients to maintain their weight loss wasn’t unique but appeared to be a near universal problem with all weight loss programs. Having struggled with his weight his whole life, Dr. Haynes understood how frustrating it is to have one’s weight constantly yo-yo up and down.

Believing that weight regain was a symptom of a flawed plan, Dr. Haynes was determined to create a program that resulted in rapid weight loss but that did it in a way that provided his patients with the knowledge and the tools necessary to keep them from gaining their weight back. After extensive research and much trial and error, Dr. Haynes created the One Life Diet. Dr. Haynes opened the first One Life clinic in May in Solana Beach and is in the process of opening several more clinics throughout the San Diego area.

In order to stay active in world of clinical medicine, Dr. Haynes continues to work one day a week as an Urgent Care physician. He also serves on the Medical Advisory Board for Mama Maria Clinics, Kenya, a non-profit organization that provides medical care to the rural poor of East Africa. He spends his free time trying to keep up with his two young sons and his beautiful wife.
